Research

The CERTT Lab conducts research not only on team issues in socio-technical systems but on methodologies and approaches to collecting and analyzing data across different projects as well. Therefore, some projects listed below refer to actual experiments while others refer to research on specific techniques.

UAV Command-and-Control
We have collected data in the context of our UAV testbed in 6 experiments to explore the impact of workload, knowledge sharing, geographic distribution, and experience on team performance, process, and cognition. This work is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR).

Airport Incident Command Our research is focused on using a human-centered approach to assess and develop incident command technologies and training programs in order to improve distributed decision making and team performance.

Anesthesiology Expertise We are assessing the knowledge that underlies expertise in anesthesiology using psychological scaling techniques. This research is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Matthew Weinger of the University of California San Diego (UCSD).

Communications Analysis We are developing automated communication analysis techniques to identify patterns of communication that are diagnostic of team performance, situation awareness, and dysfunctional team behavior. This research is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
