Experimenter Console

Hardware

The experimenter console consists of five computers, two monitors for viewing video output, two monitors for video feed from ceiling mounted cameras, and headsets with an attached microphone. From this workstation, the experimenters can observe team interactions and even take control of any participant computers. Other integrated hardware includes:

A quad splitter, which allows for video input from each of the four cameras to be displayed simultaneously on the monitor
A digital audio recorder
An audio matrix, which enables experimenters to control the status of all lines of communication

Software

The experimenter application for the synthetic task, which shows the status of the mission
Video overlay software, which allows the team number, data, and real-time mission data to be superimposed on the video
Communication recording software, which records communication events in terms of speaker, listener, and length of communication
Event logging software, which records mission events occurring at each second
Coordination logging software, which allows experimenters to make time stamped records of when specific coordination events occur.
Electronic forms for administering and scoring team situation awareness roadblocks.
Performance scoring software, which uses values of various parameters from the mission as input in order to produce an overall team score as well as individual scores
Text messaging software sends messages to a video monitor at each participant’s console. Messages can be programmed to be displayed automatically for a particular amount of time or messages can be sent to any or all of the participant displays at any instant.
Event timing software, which allows the experimenters to set timers for simultaneous events occurring during the mission
A database of waypoints and start-up parameters that facilitates development of new scenarios.
